Hello Team, We've been utilizing Google Analytics for the past five years. However, since updating to GA4, there is a notable disparity between the sum of new users and returning users. We need to understand the reasons behind this discrepancy and inquire if there is any setup required to rectify it.
The Total Users metric does not represent the simple sum of New and Returning Users. Instead, it serves as a deduplicated count in summary rows or scorecards, providing a tally of unique visitors.
For instance, if a person visited a website twice in a month—counted as a New User on the first visit and a Returning User on the second—the Total Users for that month would be 1, reflecting the unique individual. In a detailed breakdown report by visitor type, this person would be counted as both (1) New User and (1) Returning User.
